DIVINATION TOWER

DIVINATION TOWER

As you climb the long, spiral staircase, you’re greeted by the scent of incense, tea and coffee. Through a secure wooden door, you enter into the dimly lit Divination Tower, which looks a great deal more like a large sitting room than a classroom. The walls are lined with books, shelves of tea cups, various charts and a lot of eclectic decorating.

Mr. Chettri is usually here all day, and rarely wanders outside. He’s very familiar with his dedicated Divination students, and gives senior students a copy of the key to the tower so they can have access whenever they need it. He has no objection to Divination students hanging out in the tower and working on other things, as long as they’re quiet and respectful. Mr. Chettri is painfully shy, and gets visibly agitated when students he doesn’t know are brought up into the tower. It’s probably better if you don’t invite your friends up.

Divination Methods

  • Tarot: If you select to do a tarot reading, the mods will generate a spread (there’s a particular app we’re using for this; results are randomized) for you and tell you what your character received and some basic meanings behind the cards. The mods will still roll on the chart to see if your reading holds any hints about the meta plot. If it does, we will highlight the card(s) you should focus on.

  • Tea Leaves: If you choose to read your tea leaves, the mods will roll on the chart, and give you a description of your results. Tea leaves are most likely to get you accurate results about mundane plot calendar events.

  • Scrying: If you choose to scry in a crystal ball, the mods will roll on the chart, and give you a description of your results, with a handicap modifier. Scrying is least likely to give you good results, but most likely to give a very clear vision.

  • Other: If your character has another method by which they like to do readings, it will just get a flat, unmodified roll on the table. You can suggest certain outcomes may be more likely than others, but it’s at our discretion. You can’t suggest your method is more likely to get metaplot hints.

Results Table

1 Bad omen. Something unfortunate will befall you.
2–25 The results seem to hold no meaning.
26–35 Something about school.
36–50 Something about friends.
51–65 Something about love.
66–80 Mod's choice! Could be anything on the table.
81–90 Something about the plot calendar.
91–99 Something about the metaplot.
100 Good omen. Something good will happen to you.

How This Works

  • Reply to this post with the form below, and wait for the mods to get back to you.

  • Keep in mind, these take the mods some time to compose, and Divination requires some planning on our part. You may have to wait up to a week for results.

  • Please don’t ask for too many readings. If the mods feel overwhelmed, we may end up putting strict limits on how many readings per month each character can do.

  • Students not in Divination can’t ask for readings. Sorry.

  • Senior Divination students have a key to the Divination Tower and can use it as a study or hang out space. Inviting students not in Divination makes poor Mr. Chettri uncomfortable. :(

Fill this out, and comment below if you want to do a reading:

Character: Only Divination students are allowed.
Time/Date and Location: When and where the reading will be performed.
Method: Which divination method are they using? If they’re using a method not defined on this page, give a brief description. We may add it to the list if it becomes popular, or is just neat. Certain methods may be restricted to a particular character.
The Question: What do they ask?
Desired Results: What results does the character want? What results do you, the player, want? With more mundane requests or requests that would help with personal subplots, the mods are likely to just give it to you.
Any Other Requests: Anything else?

Getting Back to Beesics

[personal profile] choneychurch 2016-12-15 04:06 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Cecil Honeychurch
Time/Date and Location: December 19th - Morning (before leaving for the holiday) - Beehive near the gardens
Method: Augury | Entomomancy: Augury is a form of divination that allows wizards and witches to discern information about the past, the present, and the future by obsering the behaviors of animals. Many that practice augury believe that everything in the natural world has a spirit or a connection to the divine and that those with the Inner Eye are able to read messages purposefully hidden in the patterns of these behaviors by such entities or forces. Those that don't believe this have very little ability to explain the phenomenon of augury, though most agree that it is as accurate as other forms of divination and can be quite potent for certain wizards and witches. Entomomancy is a form of augury which focuses specifically on the behavior of insects.

Cecil practices an even more specific form of entomomancy which only utilizes bees. He does this because of his kinship with the insects and believes that understanding them, tending to them, and genuinely caring for them makes them a better tool of divination for him than any other. Whether or not this is actually true is difficult to say. But he has faith in his bees!
The Question: There's still a lot happening at Gooseberry Alternative High School that Cecil doesn't understand and, because he's about to be away for a while, he feels compelled to reach once more before he leaves. He has questions about many things. How the white moose that he saw in his vision and the black moose that Zooey saw in the forest are connected. How the Anonymous Writer (who seemed strangely concerned about all of them and empathetic toward his divination plight during the last post) could be the cause of the sad spot in the forest, as he (or she? or it?) had claimed. More than anything else, though, his vision left him with the feeling that there was something that needed to be done in the woods...he wants to know what that something is or how to find it. And he's hoping that the bees will help him understand. This is where his mind is most focused.
Desired Results: Cecil is looking for answers, some new information or some new piece to this elaborate puzzle that still leaves him scratching his head whenever he thinks about it. Mostly, he wants direction about that thing that needs to be done in the woods. As a player, I'm honestly happy with anything. Give him something, give him nothing, give him something unrelated! I'd love to send DLC back into the woods with a new ~mission~ at some point if he does find something, but I'm not holding my breath for that.
Any Other Requests: Nothing too heavy or ominous prior to the holidays if possible? I'd rather he get a big nothing than something horribly ominous that will mess up his vacay (because plans).

(I'm not apologizing for that subject.)

An attempt on Yule.

Character: Kele Tupuola
Time/Date and Location: December 21st
Method: Mirror Gazing (http://www.occultopedia.com/m/mirror.htm): Mirror gazing is a form of divination in which a smooth reflective surface is used to discern information about the past, present or future. Visions are typically shown when the eyes lock with the reflection, but looking at the space behind them, observing the moon through the mirror or using steam as means of communication are also ways of receiving.
The Question: Kele is concerned for his mother, and it clouds any questions he might have about the going-ons around him. He wishes to know what lies ahead in his path.
Desired Results: Being uncomfortable with his own divination, Kele is not sure what results he wants. There is this back and forth whether he should do it at all. Parts of him are curious how his past is affecting his course in life and wants the results to tell him that he's on the right one.
As a player, I like keeping Kele uncomfortable and fighting with himself and never getting the answers he wants. This is more for him attempting to gain control rather than any answers I wish him to have.
Any Other Requests: Results can be off subject since his mind is going over other things and the things around him as well. <3 Be mean if you'd like.

Detective Honeychurch

[personal profile] choneychurch 2017-02-17 04:18 am (UTC)(link)
Character: Cecil Honeychurch
Time/Date and Location: February 16th - Evening (after cheerleading tryouts) - Azurcrest Senior Boys cabin & February 17th - Morning (before classes) - Beehive near the gardens
Method: Tarot Reading & Entomomancy. Cecil will be conducting two readings: one tonight after he returns to his cabin (this reading will likely be clouded by his emotions and his frustration with Levi and Chris) and one tomorrow morning with his bees, which will be made with a decidedly clearer head.
The Question: Cecil promised Ari that he would attempt to find information on her missing jewelry. That is the focus of both of his readings.
Desired Results: Above all, Cecil would like to know where Ari's jewelry is so he can find it and get it returned to her. Secondarily, he'd like to know who took it and why, but that is of lesser significance to him. As a player, I'm open to any results or no results. But Cecil said he would try and so he will try!
Any Other Requests: Nope!
