Forest Entities
The elder of the two entities that live in the forest. “Brother” is clearly the one calling the shots, even if his younger counterpart doesn’t always listen. Not much is known about Brother, but he guards and protects the woods, and has reluctantly agreed to protect the school as well. He’s apparently ageless, and capable of powerful magic. For many centuries, he refused to interact with humans, but that changed when he created another one of him, a being known as “Anonymous.”
In his humanoid form, Brother’s features are impossible for the human eye to comprehend. At most, you get a sense that he’s dark and handsome and his eyes burn like stars. Antlers sprout from his head like the branches of an old tree. He often appears as a huge, pitch black bull moose.

The younger of the two entities that live in the forest. The Anonymous Writer, or Anon, was created by Brother to help him more than a hundred years ago. Despite how old that sounds, Anon has a youthful personality, and isn’t as good as his older brother at things like talking and minding boundaries. Every other month, Anon makes a post to the journal systems in which everyone is anonymous. Last year, Anon has a temper tantrum and kidnapped several dozen students to save them from adulthood. He’s very sorry about that, though!

Ghosts
A muggle mining town existed in the area about 100 years ago, and was abandoned under tragic circumstances. The ghosts of children from that mining town haunt the forest, and are implied to have died of exposure after either following Anonymous into the forest, or being kidnapped by him. Their ghosts were only briefly spotted until the events of June 2014, when Anon's anger gave the power to become conditionally material. Specialists from the MACUSA Spirit Division are here to study and "counsel" the ghosts, although the children are also now under the care of Brother.

This boy frequently haunts the most shadowy trails, and throws acorns at anyone who displeases him, which is practically everyone. Sometimes you'll hear the sound of his sobbing on your way back to your cabin.
Charles is a boy in his mid-teens, missing his left arm at the elbow. Since last year, the gash in his throat has been healed, and he is no longer covered in blood (unless he's feeling particularly dramatic).

Danny has not yet made an appearance this year. Last year, his skin appeared blue (as though he'd frozen to death), and his mouth and eyes were frozen open in a constant, silent scream. Like a poltergeist, he had the ability to pick up people or furniture and throw them around the room. He often appeared in conjunction with Margaret.

This girl most often appears outside the campsites at night, dancing and singing to herself. She generally avoids direct interaction with the living.

THE SINGING GIRL
The father, whose name is unknown, has not yet made an appearance this year. Students remember him as a distraught man with a beard, in search of his lost son (or daughter?). He misidentified students as his child and attacked anyone else in their company with his pickaxe.

This girl exclusively haunts the depths of the lake. She once rescued a freshman who almost drowned during Boating Club, but has since been warned to stay away from the students. Sometimes her head pops out of the water to watch them from a distance, though.

Henry has not yet made an appearance this year. Last year, he communicated with some students during a seance, and frightened them away with his horrific headless appearance and corpse-like smell.

Margaret has not yet made an appearance this year. Last year, she would catch people off-guard by falling from the rafters, and waiting until they came close before ambling after them with her twisted, broken body. She often appeared in conjunction with Danny.

This girl loves playing tricks, and earlier this year, was responsible for releasing the potion into the vents that caused everyone to start spontaneously kissing. Since then, Brother has been very displeased with her, and advised her to lay low. It remains to be seen how long she'll listen. Last year, she communicated with several students, and gave them false names and false information.

This girl haunts the basement, and can be heard coughing if you venture down there. Last year, she kidnapped a boy with the intention of marrying him, but he was rescued by his friends.

If this girl appears, you'd better have something precious ready to trade, because that's the only thing she wants from you. Last year, she accepted items from students in exchange for leading them to their friends' locations. Also, if you find a childish drawing of mysterious origin, it most likely came from this ghost's hands.

This boy haunts the docks, and can most often be spotted when it's raining outside. He tends to flee whenever anyone tries to talk to him, though.

A Gooseberry graduate in years past (Ebonhide pride!), Martin Pratt is the inventor of the magical journal network used at Gooseberry. He’s rumored to have had a relationship with the entities in the forest, which is why Anonymous has such easy access to the journals. He’s made a couple visits to the school when there were issues with the network, and while nice, is highly eccentric. He did contracting work for the MACUSA for a time, but has since disappeared, claiming he was leaving the country briefly. He’s rumored to be dating a vampire.

Not much is known about Director Grimshaw, but he’s at the head of a team of MACUSA agents sent to ensure that Gooseberry is indeed safe for students to continue attending.

Mrs. O’Hare’s husband works for the National Magical Parks Service as a well-respected ecologist. Where Constance is quick and clipped, Ephraim is slow and ponderous. Before answering any question people ask him, he pauses for a moment and mulls it over. It takes him a while to get to his point, but he seems knowledgeable. Students get the impression he’s a harsh critic, and he eyes everything around him judgmentally.
Dr. O’Hare arrived here last year to research the entities in the forest, and unlike everyone in the MACUSA, has actually communicated with them a few times. Dr. O’Hare tends to always come down on the side of the school, which causes tension between him and his superiors who think he’s biased because of his wife.

An agent from the MACUSA Auror Bureau, Agent Larke is enthusiastic, but in a pointed way. She’s a great deal more approachable than her assigned partner, Dr. O’Hare, but she still wants to keep a professional distance between herself and the students. At least she does it with a smile, though!
Last year, Agent Larke came to investigate the forest and even sounded the alarm about the end-of-the-year incident, which wasn’t taken seriously by her superiors until too late. Now she primarily works as the liaison between the MACUSA and the school staff, although most times she thinks she’s basically a glorified messenger, placed low on the totem pole because of her youth.
