Students are provided with bows, arrows and targets which are set up on the Quidditch pitch. Mr. Thorn oversees inexperienced archers, while more advanced students can play games, have small competitions, and run time trials.

Boating has become a catch-all for any activities done in the lake. There are canoes, kayaks, and small sailing boats that students can learn to use. Time is also often spent swimming or fishing, sometimes off the side of the boats. Boating is cancelled in cases of moose or sasquatch related emergencies. Those guys sure are territorial!

Boating is sponsored by Mrs. O'Hare, with assistance by Mr. Thorn. It meets every Thursday at 4:30 PM.

EXTRACURRICULAR
Choir
Choir practices in the music room, where students learn and perform songs that are sung at the winter concert, and the end of year concert. Ms. Thrussell prefers the classics, and considers doing numbers from musicals to be edgy and modern.

EXTRACURRICULAR
Crafting
Crafting Club takes on all sorts of handmade artistic projects and aims to accommodate lots of different skill levels. It's basically an opportunity for creative people to get together to try something new, collaborate with each other, and maybe find a new passion or a hidden talent. Oh, and have fun of course!

There are two types of club meetings. The first type is instructional, wherein someone takes the lead on showing the group how to do a certain craft. During these meetings, all the supplies will be provided (though people can always bring extras!) and everyone will be working on some variant of the same project. The second type is free-form, where students can come and either finish up the project from the previous week or work on some other project that they might want some help with or some opinions about.

Crafting is sponsored by Mr. Oakes. It meets every Friday at 4:30 PM.

EXTRACURRICULAR
Drama
Drama Club holds two productions every year. The winter production is always a play, and the spring production is a highly anticipated musical. This year, the winter play will be written and directed by a Gooseberry student. Cast auditions and crew signups are open to all members of the student body, but Drama Club members get first pick for the best roles and onstage leadership roles. Drama is held in the auditorium on the main floor of the lodge.

Drama is sponsored by Mrs. Acuña, sometimes assisted by Ms. Thrussell. It meets every Thursday at 7:00 PM.

EXTRACURRICULAR
Duelling & Fencing
These clubs work on an alternating schedule, where one week will be wand duelling, and the next will be fencing (the focus is on foil or épée, but all three weapons are available). Students are welcome to show up for only one or the other. It's held in the atrium of the lodge, after everyone drags all the couches out of the way and put up the duelling platform or fencing strips.

Students can be banned for getting out of hand in Duelling, but may appeal the ban after a year.
Sylvester Stoker: banned for punching Calvin in the nose after Calvin disarmed and hexed him. Appealed!
Riley Stamper: banned for getting overzealous with a foil freshman year.

Duelling & Fencing is sponsored by Ms. Lilywhite (duelling) and Ms. Poe (fencing), assisted sometimes by Mr. Elmasry (guinea pig). It meets every Wednesday at 7:00 PM.
CLUB PRESIDENT: Sybilla Borgin

EXTRACURRICULAR
Equestrian
While students (assuming they're trusted by Mr. Covington) are allowed to go riding during most daylight hours, Equestrian Club is useful for learning how to care for the animals. Mr. Covington introduces students to more advanced riding techniques, and from time to time takes them on trail rides and short flights.

Equestrian Club is sponsored by Mr. Covington. It meets every Tuesday at 4:30 PM.
CLUB PRESIDENT: Gweneth Popplestone

STUDENTS
  • Seniors: Adeline, Ennis, Georgiana, Gweneth, Iliya, Jaime, Kurt, Mackenzie, Sofia, Ulysses
  • Juniors: Ariadne, Fern, Isabelle, Ruby, Salem, Solomon
  • Sophomores: Griffin, Paris
EXTRACURRICULAR
Event Committee
Event Committee is responsible for planning dances and other school-sanctioned events. They're given a modest budget, but are allowed to run approved fundraisers to increase it. They can use this money to either hold extra events, or make the standing ones more complex.

Event Committee is sponsored by Mr. Hightower. It meets every Monday at 7:00 PM.
CLUB PRESIDENT: Ursula de Luca

STUDENTS
  • Seniors: Cameron, Casey, Ennis, Riley, Rosemary, Ursula, Veronica, Yancey
  • Juniors: Calvin, Jade, Janet, Lucas, Max, Micah, Salem, Samantha, Thaddeus, Todd
  • Sophomores: Balthazar, Basil, Chad, Hieronymus, London, Madison, Marie, Natalie
EXTRACURRICULAR
Gaming
Also jokingly referred to as “The Great Indoors,” Gooseberry Gaming Club is a catch-all for any indoor games, including table games (such as chess, cards and board games of both the wizard and Muggle variety) and portable video games (brought from home by students). Although the Atrium is large enough to accommodate everyone, there’s always some tension over “noise levels” between different groups.

The biggest lure of Gaming Club often comes in the form of the single Nintendo Wii and its collection of family friendly party games. The Wii has three good controllers, and one that someone once tried to enchant to give them an edge. No matter how people try to fix it, the thing still gets… quirky.

Gaming is sponsored by Ms. Whittle. It meets every Tuesday at 7:00 PM.
CLUB PRESIDENT: Austin McNamara

STUDENTS
  • Seniors: Avery, Casey, Chloe, Daniel, Ennis, Ferdinand, Gweneth, Lachlan, Oscar, Phineas, Sylvester, Ursula
  • Juniors: Austin, Ariadne, Cassius, Jefferson, Liberty, Lucas, Micah, Noel, Samantha, Sebastien, Solomon
  • Sophomores: Archimedes, Corrigan, Dinah, Griffin, Juniper, Karen, Natalie, Pandora, Quentin, Seth, Tobias
EXTRACURRICULAR
Gardening
Gardening Club focuses on planting and nurturing a student garden/plant bed given to them by Mr. Hightower. Students may make selections regarding what they'd like to grow, with Wilde guiding the organization of both indoor and outdoor plots/spaces. He has the authority to refuse certain plant choices suggested by members. Wilde also plans to integrate some experimentation (supplementing plant growth and health, or expanding on lessons learned in Herbology). The plots are open for students to work on whenever they have free time.

Gardening is sponsored by Mr. Hightower. It meets every Friday at 3:00 PM.
CLUB PRESIDENT: Jonathan Wilde

STUDENTS
  • Seniors: Adeline, Antonia, Casper, Daniel, Georgiana, Iliya, Kurt, Lilika, Marilyn, Phoebe, Ulysses, Yancey
  • Juniors: Ariadne, Austin, Charlotte, Fern, Hazel, Jonah, Heathcliff, Thaddeus
  • Sophomores: Archimedes, Carolina, Concordia, Ira, Natalie, Paris
EXTRACURRICULAR
L.A.R.P.
Live Action Role Playing, now in its fifth year. Considered the embarrassing lovechild of Drama and Gaming, LARP is somewhat maligned by the larger student body. Participants take on the role of a fantasy character, and act out stories and adventures in real time. Two years ago, the well-loved Mr. Pennywise served as LARP's sponsor, where he would pretend to be a king who had gone mad in his old age, handing out ridiculous proclamations and ranting at his put-upon knights.

After some begging, Mr. Elmasry was convinced to step up last year. Upon the "death" of King Pennywise, his young son and only heir assumed throne! Mr. Elmasry has grown more comfortable as the club's sponsor, and upgraded himself to a more sparkly crown this year. (See here for technical details about how LARP works, but tl;dr just handwave everything.)

LARP is sponsored by Mr. Elmasry. It meets every Saturday from 4–6 PM. (This overlaps with Outdoor Exploration, and members of both clubs must choose which to attend that weekend.)
CLUB PRESIDENT: Yancey Montgomery

STUDENTS
  • Seniors: Chloe, Ennis, Marilyn, Oscar, Phineas, Reece, Riley, Sandford, Ursula, Yancey
  • Juniors: Charlotte, Fern, Jade, Max, Noel, Sebastien, Zachary
  • Sophomores: Archimedes, Paris, Hieronymus, Karen, Nisha, Quentin, Rupert, Tobias
EXTRACURRICULAR
Outdoor Exploration
This is a club for kids who can't get enough of Outdoor Education. Hiking, rock climbing, camping, fishing... it's all here. There's an emphasis on learning survival skills and how to do things without magic, so be ready to put in some elbow grease if you join! Every so often, Outdoor Exploration will organize a weekend hiking trip, where students will leave Friday morning, and return Saturday or Sunday. It's popular in part because it gets you out of classes on Friday, and sometimes your bonding activity too!

Outdoor Exploration is sponsored by Mr. Thorn. It meets every Saturday from 4–6 PM, unless Mr. Thorn has planned a weekend trip. (This overlaps with LARP, and members of both clubs must choose which to attend that weekend.)
CLUB PRESIDENT: Ophelia

STUDENTS
  • Seniors: Adeline, Avery, Clementine, Ennis, Georgiana, Iliya, Jonathan, Kurt, Lachlan, Lilika, Mackenzie, Oscar, Roxanne, Sandford, Sylvester, Veronica, Webster
  • Juniors: Charlotte, Fern, Hazel, Janet, Jefferson, Liberty, Max, Ophelia, Ruby, Solomon, Zachary
  • Sophomores: Antigone, Basil, Chad, Concordia, Dinah, Grace, Griffin, Paris, Quentin, Tuesday
EXTRACURRICULAR
Quidditch
Although Quodpot is the more popular sport in America, Hogwarts' influence on Gooseberry can be seen in its love of Quidditch. A captain is chosen by each Head of House, and tryouts are held the first month of every school year. Gooseberry uses American Rules, which means the Snitch is only worth 50 points.

Quidditch is sponsored by Mr. Thorn and the respective Head of House. Each team has a set practice on Saturday, with the option for team captains to book the pitch on other days.

EBONHIDE: Saturday 9:00 AM - 10:30 AM
COPPERTALE: Saturday 10:30 AM - 12:00 PM
RIBBONFIN: Saturday 1:00 PM - 2:30 PM
AZURCREST: Saturday 2:30 PM - 4:00 PM
STUDENTS: See the complete list of Quidditch players here.
EXTRACURRICULAR
Cheer Squad
Although it's often accused of being a popularity contest for attractive mean girls, the Cheer Squad will adamantly defend its status as a sport. Cheerleaders perform numbers during games, get the crowd going, and taunt the opposition. It's as difficult to make it onto the Cheer Squad as it is onto a Quidditch team. The captain is chosen by their Head of House, and tryouts are held the first month of every school year.

Cheerleading is sponsored by Mr. Thorn and the respective Head of House. Each squad shares Saturday practice with their house's Quidditch team, with the option for cheer captains to book the pitch on other days. (Cheerleaders have been known to also try practicing in the main lodge's Atrium during colder months.)
STUDENTS: See the complete list of cheer squad members here.
